Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson to Return for ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’

Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are officially back. Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson have been confirmed to reprise their iconic roles in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping—marking the first time the pair will step back into the franchise since 2015's Mockingjay – Part 2.

Sunrise on the Reaping is a prequel set 24 years before the original trilogy. Beginning on the morning of the 50th Hunger Games, the story follows a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy as he enters the Second Quarter Quell—where the tribute count is doubled to 48 participants. Because the film takes place well before Katniss and Peeta were born, Lawrence and Hutcherson are expected to appear via a frame story, flash-forward, or epilogue sequence.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled to release on November 20, 2026.
